This is the variety which produces the bulk of the basketry willow from the Somerset Levels. It produces a good range of sizes from 3ft - 7ft on each stool. The common name of Almond Willow for Salix triandra comes from the smell of almonds from the crushed leaves.
If left to grow Salix triandra is a small, bushy tree or robust, spreading shrub that reaches 10m in height. The bark of the Almond willow is smooth and dark grey which flakes off when the trunks are more mature.
