10 cuttings of live willow of Salix purpurea, ready to plant (25 to 30cm in length).
Native to Britain, widely distributed being usually found near watercourses and damp meadows. Grows a lot more spreading than the cultivated purpureas - not normally attaining a height of more than 4m. The name purple willow comes from the colour of the catkins which appear with the first leaves in early spring.
We normally recommend a mixture of purple willow and grey sallow (s.cinerea) when asked to recommend varieties of willow suitable for hedgerows as both will respond well to being trimmed regularly.
Available DECEMBER to MARCH.
