Aquascutum has a proud heritage dating back to 1851. The distinctive word Aquascutum is taken from the Latin words meaning Water-Shield and was established following the innovative introduction of water repellent cloth. Well-dressed gentlemen were quick to adopt the Aquascutum raincoat, safe in the knowledge that they would remain dry in the infamous inclement weather of London. Aquascutum's reputation flourished, so much so, that Lord Raglan approached the company to cut a new kind of coat, to allow a greater freedom of movement, suitable for the rigours of military service. Aquascutum rose to the challenge and the Raglan sleeve was born.
Aquascutum continued to supply the military through the Crimean War, and more notably the First and Second World Wars when the now famous trenchcoat was supplied to the officers in the trenches. The trenchcoat survived the war to become an international style classic, an icon garment that is key to the Aquascutum heritage and a constant inspiration for the seasonal collections.
To this day, Aquascutum has a worldwide reputation as a classic British brand renowned for the fine craftsmanship, luxury fabrics and an elegant, sophisticated style.
Fishers Exclusive Menswear, Brighton, is proud to be the key Aquascutum account in the South of England.
