How the Midg-itT works

Free 1 Octenol tablet and 2 midge collection bags.

Free Cylinder hire and gas fill voucher with all midgeaters and midg-its ordered on-line worth up to £49.98

Introducing the mighty Midg-itT by Texol - effective relief from insect bites

The Midg-itT attracts biting insects towards it using a plume of harmless carbon dioxide combined with specially researched, natural attractants in tablet or sachet form, and then draws them into a disposable bag.The machine mimics the breath of a large animal. When the insects fly towards it they are expecting a tasty bloody meal. Boy are they in for a surprise!

The Midg-itT is designed for continuous operation; it will run until the gas supply has been exhausted.

how it works

Gas cylinder

The Midg-itT uses a propane or propane/butane mix cylinder available with a clip-on fitting making it easier and safer to use. One 13kg bottle should last about a month.

Improve your outdoor leisure activity

As biting insects are attracted to any warm,CO2 producing source (including people and animals) the machine should be sited away from where people congregate. Ideally the insects should reach the Midg-itT before they reach the people.

Biting insects can detect CO2 from up to 100m away. It may be worth trying several locations to identify which is the most effective for your trap. Furthermore, changes in wind direction could alter the insects behaviour so it may be necessary to move the trap from one location to another throughout the season.

1. Prior to Starting Unit

Inside service pack you will find a bait sachet and two capture bags. Follow instruction on bait before use.Remove door of capture chamber and place bag on suction moulding. Remove cap from bait holder, place bait inside then replace cap.

Remove door of capture chamber and place bag on suction moulding. The elastic will hold bag in place. Replace door. NB - Please wash hands after handling bait sachet.

Change of tablet

It is recommended to change the bait sachet every 4 weeks.

Precautions for Handling bait sachets

The bait sachet is harmful if swallowed, absorbed through skin or inhaled. Avoid skin, mouth and eye contact with the sachet. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Avoid inhalation.

Statement of Practical Treatment

If inhaled - move to fresh air.
If on skin - wash affected area with soap and water.
If in eyes - flush with plenty of water. Call a physician if irritation develops.

Disposal of Used Tablet

Wrap used sachet in paper and discard into rubbish bin.

2. Connecting Midg-ITT to Calor Propane Cylinder

connection

The Midg-ITT regulator is of the 27mm clip-on type designed for simple connection to 5kg Calor Gas. Push regulator onto gas bottle. Turn grey switch of regulator to vertical position.

3. Operation

1.Place Midg-ITT in desired location.

2.Prior to switching unit on, check unit is in starting position as shown above i.e. handle will be facing up. NOTE: The Midg-ITT will not start in any other position.

3.When starting from cold the system will have to be primed i.e. hold black button in for approx. 10 seconds. This lets the gas flow through the hose.

starting midg-it

After 5 seconds press igniter button (red) until a pop is heard, the gas has now ignited.

4.Press black button and hold in position.

5.Midg-IT: catching positionAfter 5 seconds press red igniter button (keeping the black button held down) until a pop is heard, the gas has now ignited.

6.Keep the black button held down until the power indicator needle has moved between the red and the green section. This should take approximately 90 seconds (please note that if the black button is released at any time during the above operation, you must repeat the process from step 4).

7.After releasing the black button the needle on the power indicator should continue to rise into the green section.

catching position

8.The Midg-ITT should now be placed in the catching position.

9. Your Midg-ITT will now be operational.

A 5kg patio gas bottle should last 10 to 12 days. This only applies if the Midg-ITT is left to run continuously, for which purpose it has been designed and tested. Continuous use is recommended for best results. You will know the gas has run out when the power indicator shows the pointer in the red area. Another indication will be that the fan inside the capture area will have stopped.

Repeat the operation instructions to restart The Midg-ITT. If you require to switch The Midg-ITT off for any reason, this must be done at the regulator of the gas cylinder.

4. Machine Placement

As midges are attracted to any warm, CO2 producing source (including people and animals) the machine should be sited away from where people congregate. Ideally the midges should reach The Midg-ITT before they reach the people.

machine placement

It may be worth trying several locations to identify which is the most effective for your Midg-ITT. Furthermore, changes in wind direction could alter the midges' behaviour so it may be necessary to move the trap from one location to another throughout the season.

5. Storage

Always ensure the Midg-ITT is left for 1 hour after switching off prior to storage. Disconnect from gas cylinder. The Midg-ITT can now be safely stored inside. It is recommended that the Midg-ITT be stored under cover during winter months. Never store the gas cylinder in the home, below ground level or in an unventilated place.

6. Normal Cleaning and Maintenance Instructions

The unit should periodically be wiped clean of any residual midges using a wet cloth.

7. Important Safety Information

  • The Midg-ITT is designed for outdoor use only.
  • The Midg-ITT should only be used for insect capture.
  • Carefully supervise children and animals when The Midg-ITT is in use.
  • In an emergency or if there is a smell of gas present always turn off the gas supply at the regulator. Do not use until the source of gas escape has been repaired by a competent person.
  • Attention should be made to ensure the gas hose is not bent or buckled. The hose should be checked every time the cylinder is changed for cracking and damage. If hose needs changing use an approved hose to BS3212 Type 2.
  • Repairs and maintenance on the gas components should only be carried out by a qualified specialist.
  • Use only the specified gas type
